Path Toward Healing: A conversation around building equity in Charlotte’s healthcare community

Nov 17

Charlotte Campus

This fall, Northeastern University–Charlotte brought three leaders together for the “Path Toward Healing: A conversation around building equity in Charlotte’s healthcare community.” With the recent announcement of North Carolina’s first chief health equity officer as well as the healthcare challenges throughout the pandemic, there is a renewed focus on health equity. However, the question of what can be done to ensure everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their full health potential – regardless of their social position or socially determined circumstances – has been top of mind for Charlotte’s healthcare leaders for years.

On Wednesday, November 17, Northeastern University’s Senior Vice Provost and Chief Inclusion Officer Karl Reid was joined by Tanya Blackmon, EVP and Chief Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Officer at Novant Health; and Gibbie Harris, Mecklenburg County Public Health Director; to discuss health equity – what has been done, where we are now, and what the path toward healing looks like for all residents of the metro Charlotte community. The conversation was moderated by Mike Collins, host of WFAE’s “Charlotte Talks.”

The live event was recorded and aired the following day, Thursday, November 18, 2021, on “Charlotte Talks.” You can access the recording on WFAE’s website.
