This discussion will bring together experts and community leaders to highlight the importance of addressing social determinants to improve health equity and create sustainable solutions for healthier communities. The conversation will address the unique obstacles faced by individuals in rural areas, Indigenous populations, and urban settings, examining how these factors intersect to shape health disparities and outcomes.
Expert professors, physicians, and community leaders from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and Northeastern University will share their perspectives, addressing the disparities that exist in healthcare access and the broader implications for public health.
Panelists include:
- Ronny Bell, PhD, MS, Fred Eshelman Professor and Chair of the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and Director of Cancer Care Access and Excellence for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center
- Stacie Turpin Saunders, MPH, Deputy Director for NC DHHS Division of Public Health and Section Chief for the Local and Community Support Section
- Shan Mohammed, MD, MPH, Clinical Professor in the Department of Public Health and Health Sciences and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Educational and Student Initiatives at the Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University. He currently serves as the chair of the Education Advisory Committee with the Association of Schools and Programs in Public Health (ASPPH)
